What is TTM ?
TTM Full Form – Don’t wait for 12 Months (Trailing 12 months)
Companies issue their balance sheets on an annual basis, but the company cannot wait for a full year to find out how its financial health is going. Companies also release quarterly results.
But the problem with quarterly results is that they don't represent all seasons of the year. As everyone understands, many products are sold more during festive days i.e. the quarter ending December. Similarly, AC and fridge swell in summer. That is why, if the company's income figures are taken for a year, they are better nearer to reality.
TTM Full Form
TTM has full form Trailing Twelve Months. The term TTM is used for data for the last 12 months for reporting financial data. If you are looking at the financial figures that will be available in March, the balance sheet, which has been made up till March, will be the figures for the last twelve months. But if you are looking at the figures for the quarter ended June, you will have to add the figures for the last four quarters to remove the TTM.
When the income of a company is seen in June 2020, the data from July 2020 to June 2021 will be taken. Thus, we will be able to use the most recent data in the right context.
TTM to count EPS and PE ratios
TTM is often used to count EPS and PE ratios. In the above example, the EPS of the last 12 months in June 2018 will be called TTM EPS. The figures for the last 12 months, though not the picture of the entire financial year, show the picture of the next 12 months.
